The Bible Continues

Over the years, I had watched several movies depicting the events of the bible. One of the ones that sticks out in my mind is “The Ten Commandments”. Movies such as this depicted the more common stories of the bible. Since I had began my in depth reading of the bible, I was wanting something more. As if being designed after my longing, a new movie has made it’s way onto my screen. A.D. The Bible Continues premiered on NBC last night….and I was not disappointed. Some of you may be wondering what my obsession with “bible movies” is. Well, I will tell you.

I have ADD. If you know much about this disorder, you know that it is very difficult to focus on a particular thing for an extended period of time. This issue has caused me difficulty while reading my bible more than once. When reading, a person’s focus is on the words of the book that they are reading. In my case, my mind would begin wondering at certain points and I would lose my place and end up staring at the page of words. With a movie, I would have not only a visual effect, but an audio effect as well. The audio, for me, either reinforces what I had already read or introduces me to what I may have missed. “Bridging the gaps” I like to call it 🙂

Back to A.D. This is a NBC mini series being broadcast for 1 hour every Sunday night through the month of June. With A.D, new information from the bible (as far as the typical bible movie goes) is being brought to light. Being based on the book of Acts, this mini series is telling the story of the apostles after Jesus’ death and resurrection. This is exciting for me as I know very little of the story of the apostles in this era. I have also had a bonus with this. My husband and my children joined me as I watched the first part last night. Nothing could have pleased me more than to spend my Easter night with those that I love most on this earth gathered around to hear and watch the word of God come to life on our television. While nothing replaces the true word of God (the bible), movies such as this can aid in understanding if written accurately.
