During my school years, being part of the “in crowd” was the place to be. You remember the type. The ones that appeared to be confident, perfect, smart, and whom everyone adored. I wanted to be a part of that group, but I never stood a chance. They were fearless, I was afraid of everything. They had perfect hair and skin, and I had frizzy hair and acne. They came from brick homes, and I lived in a trailer park. Instead, I watched from afar and just dreamed of what it would be like to be popular. What I didnt know at the time was that their lives were not as perfect as what I thought. After graduating, quite a few of those “popular” kids became addicted to drugs and have gotten divorced. Some of them had never gotten married at all. Seeing the way that things had turned out for them, a part of me felt glad that I never became part of the “in crowd.”
Romans 12:2 – “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.“
All of these years later, I am finally a part of a crowd. There was only one crowd that I was ever meant to join. I call it the “Jesus crowd.” You know the type. Its the ones who talk about God, Jesus, the bible, and getting into Heaven. Its the ones who strive to live their lives in ways pleasing to God. Its the ones who do not drink or take drugs. Yep….I am one of those 🙂 We talk, hang out, listen to music, read, and have a great time together. By society’s standards, we may be thought of as a brainwashed, delusional, cult who believes in an invisible fairy. I know that we will be persecuted for our beliefs….and it is already happening in various parts of the world. I intend to prepare myself for such battles as best as I can and keep moving forward. After all, are the standards of society more important or are the standards of God?
1 Peter 2:9 – “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light”
