Parenting Woes? The Bible Can Help

Raising a child in times like these can be quite a task. Access to television, radio, and internet makes everything more difficult to say the least. The media in general flaunts sex, drugs, and ungodly behaviors as the “norm” for society. While adults know better, impressionable young minds are like sponges….absorbing it all. As parents, it is our job to teach our children right from wrong. But what do parents do when they have failed at this task for years? Where do we turn to correct ourselves and our children? The answers to these questions lie within one book….The Holy Bible. Below are some verses that I have found helpful. Perhaps you will too 🙂

Deut 6:7 – Teach children diligently and talk with them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walk, and when thou lie down, and when thou rise up
Prov 1:4 – Give to the young man knowledge and discretion
Heb 5:14 – Strong meat belongeth to them that are full of age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil
Prov 23:13 – Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beat him with the rod he shall not die
Col 3:21 – Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged
Prov 29:15 – The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame
Prov 29:17 – Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea he shall give delight unto thy soul
Prov 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go: when he is old he will not depart from it

Col 3:20 – Children obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord
Eph 6:2 – Honor thy father and thy mother (also one of the 10 Commandments)
Prov 17:25 – A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him
Prov 19:26 – He that wasteth his father and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach
